01 · The Drive

Direct on I-5 North.

DuPont sits roughly 42 miles south of Seattle-Tacoma International, just past JBLM at Exit 119. JBLM itself spans the I-5 corridor between Exits 116 and 122. From either origin, the route is straightforward: north on I-5 until the SeaTac exits. The variable is traffic, not the road.

From a DuPont pickup — Northwest Landing, Hoffman Hill, Palisade, Edmond Village, or one of the newer developments along Center Drive — your chauffeur takes Exit 119 onto I-5 northbound and stays on it. From a JBLM pickup, we leave through your designated gate, merge to I-5 north, and run the same corridor. Either way, no shortcuts apply; the freeway is the route.

The drive passes Lakewood, the SR-512 interchange, the Fife S-curves, and through the Federal Way merge before the airport approach. Total time runs 45 minutes in clear conditions and stretches toward 60 during peak Tacoma-Seattle commute windows (typically 6:30–9:00 AM northbound, 3:30–6:30 PM southbound). We watch live traffic continuously and pad pickup times accordingly.

For pre-dawn flights, the road is yours. We've completed DuPont and JBLM lodging pickups in under 42 minutes door-to-door at 4 AM. For the 0500 deployment-day flights that JBLM service members know well, we've been doing this drive — quietly, reliably, on time — for over a decade.

03 · Joint Base Lewis-McChord

JBLM riders — we've been here for a long time.

Joint Base Lewis-McChord is the West Coast's largest joint military installation, spanning the I-5 corridor between Lakewood and DuPont. JBLM is also one of our most-served pickup areas — for over a decade we've been running PCS arrivals, TDY returns, R&R departures, deployment-day 0500 airport drops, and family transportation while service members are deployed.

Our chauffeurs know the timing pressure of a pre-dawn flight before a deployment, the relief of a long-overseas TDY return, the logistics of a PCS family with kids, gear, and uniform bags moving through SeaTac. We know which gate to use depending on time of day, where to wait inside lodging facilities, and how to coordinate with sponsors when ID verification matters.

08 · When to leave

Pickup timing by departure hour.

DuPont and JBLM distances to SeaTac don't change. What changes is the I-5 corridor. Below are our recommended pickup buffers for typical flight departure windows. PCS-day and deployment-day pickups get extra coordination and earlier scheduling automatically.

4 AM – 6 AM Departure
3hr
Pickup 3 hours before flight. Roads are empty; the build-in is for TSA, gate-walking, and the 42-mile drive.
6 AM – 9 AM Departure
3.5hr
Peak northbound rush through Lakewood, Tacoma, and Federal Way. Wider buffer protects against incidents and slow merges.
9 AM – 3 PM Departure
3hr
Mid-day window. Traffic moderate, route choice flexible. SeaTac check-in steady but not extreme.
3 PM – 8 PM Departure
3.5hr
Afternoon rush impacts the SR-512/I-5 interchange and through Federal Way. We watch live feeds and adjust if needed.

10 · For frequent flyers

If you fly out of SeaTac monthly, we should be on file.

The DuPont and JBLM corridor has one of the highest concentrations of frequent SeaTac travelers in the South Sound — service members on rotation, JBLM contractors flying weekly to D.C. and the Bay Area, DuPont corporate consultants commuting to client sites, and retiree families taking multiple trips per year.

For travelers like these, we maintain a profile: preferred vehicle class, preferred pickup address (or JBLM gate), child seat needs, water/no-water, music/silent. Each ride takes 30 seconds to book by text or phone — no re-entering information, no re-explaining your gate.

Frequent Flyer Program

For DuPont, JBLM, and Steilacoom travelers running the SeaTac corridor more than four times a quarter.

  • Saved profile · book by text in seconds
  • Priority dispatch on early-morning & deployment-day rides
  • Monthly billing option for corporate accounts
  • Stackable with 10% military discount
  • First-call notification when severe weather impacts I-5
11 · Common questions

Questions we hear from DuPont & JBLM riders.

How much is a DuPont or JBLM to SeaTac ride?
Flat rates: Sedan $129, Premium SUV $169, Executive Van $249, and Sprinter $379. All flat one-way, no surge pricing, no airport surcharge added after the fact. Active duty, retired military, and dependents receive a 10% discount applied at checkout.
How long does the drive take?
Typically 45 to 60 minutes for the roughly 42-mile drive. The faster end is off-peak (mid-day, late evening, weekends); the slower end is the I-5 commute window. We build pickup times around the worst-case end of that range to keep you on schedule.
Do you pick up on JBLM?
Yes — every gate, every lodging facility, on-base housing, and Madigan AMC. We've been doing this for over a decade and we're familiar with sponsor coordination, ID verification, gate hours, and access requirements. Tell us your destination building and we'll route to the right gate automatically.
How does the 10% military discount work?
Show a valid military ID (active, retired, reserve, National Guard, or dependent) at pickup. The discount is applied to the base fare for all vehicle classes on every DuPont and JBLM ↔ SeaTac ride — no minimum, no cap, no expiration. Frequent flyer benefits stack on top.
Can you handle PCS moves?
Yes — PCS arrivals and departures are one of our most-served use cases. Premium SUV or Executive Van is most common for full PCS families; we install car seats free of charge, accommodate full luggage manifests, and coordinate timing with your sponsor or housing contact. Mention PCS at booking for priority dispatch.
Do you do early-morning deployment-day flights?
Yes. Pre-dawn departures are a core part of what we do. Our dispatch is 24/7, our chauffeurs are accustomed to 0300 and 0400 pickups, and we plan around the quieter overnight I-5 corridor to get you to the gate calm and on time. Book deployment-day rides as far in advance as possible.
What if my flight is delayed?
We track every inbound flight automatically and adjust pickup timing in real time. No rebooking fee, no waiting charges within the first hour after touchdown. You don't need to call us when the gate or arrival time changes — we already know, and we'll be at the curb when you are.
Can I book a return ride at the same time?
Yes, and we recommend it for round-trips. Round-trip bookings get a single confirmation, one chauffeur assignment when possible, and locked-in pricing both directions. The 10% military discount applies to both legs.
Are car seats available?
Yes — infant, toddler, and booster seats are available on request at no extra charge. Common among PCS-arriving families, JBLM dependents, and DuPont parents heading on family travel. Mention it when you book.
Do you do shared rides?
No. Every Tacoma Shuttle ride is private. Only your party is in the vehicle. No detour to pick up strangers, no shared stops, no shared luggage hold. This matters especially for service members returning from long deployments and PCS families with significant gear.
How early should I be picked up?
For most domestic flights leaving 6 AM–9 AM, plan for a pickup 3 hours 30 minutes before departure. Off-peak flights, 3 hours is comfortable. International or first-time-flier? Add 30 minutes. We can recommend a specific pickup time based on your flight number and origin neighborhood or gate.
How do I book?
Call (253) 666-6560, email support@tacomashuttle.com, or use the booking form. We confirm by email and text. Day-of, your chauffeur sends a "10 minutes out" message before arrival. Frequent flyers can book by text in seconds once a profile is on file.
