Gig Harbor to SeaTac Shuttle | Toll Included, No Plan B Needed | From $115
SR-16 · Narrows Bridge toll included in your rate

One bridge. No plan B.
So we build the buffer in.

Every airport run from Gig Harbor crosses the Tacoma Narrows in the tolled direction, on the only span there is. There's no free alternative crossing and no detour worth taking — which is exactly why the lead time we set from Gig Harbor is longer than from anywhere else we serve. The toll's in your rate. The buffer's in your pickup time.

Quick answer

How much is a shuttle from Gig Harbor to SeaTac?

A private shuttle from Gig Harbor to SeaTac Airport starts at $115 for a sedan carrying up to 3 passengers. SUVs, vans, and Sprinters are quoted per trip. The rate covers the entire vehicle, not each seat, and the eastbound Tacoma Narrows Bridge toll is included — along with gratuity. No surge pricing, no off-hours surcharge: a 4 AM pickup costs what a 4 PM pickup costs.

The drive is roughly 40 miles and 45 to 65 minutes, via SR-16, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, and I-5 North. Two things about that bridge shape this entire route. First, it's tolled in one direction only — eastbound, toward Tacoma — which happens to be the exact direction every airport trip travels. Coming home is free. Second, and more importantly: there is no free alternative crossing of Puget Sound in that area. One span, no detour.

That's why we set a longer lead time from Gig Harbor than from anywhere else we serve. Not because the drive is far — Lakewood is a comparable distance — but because Lakewood has three ways to reach I-5 and Gig Harbor has one. We check the bridge before every pickup and build the buffer on the assumption that the crossing is the risk. Because it is.

The Narrows toll

You always travel in the direction that costs money.

The Tacoma Narrows Bridge is tolled one way. Unhelpfully for anyone catching a flight, it's the way you're going.

DirectionWhich spanTolled? What it costsWhen you do it
EastboundGig Harbor → Tacoma The 2007 span Tolled ~$4.50–6.50fixed, any hour Every trip to the airport. Included in your rate.
WestboundTacoma → Gig Harbor The 1950 span Free $0not tolled Every trip home from the airport.
The rate is fixed, not dynamic. Unlike the I-405 or SR-167 express lanes, the Narrows toll costs the same at 4 AM as at 4 PM, every day of the week. It runs from roughly $4.50 with a Good To Go! pass up to around $6.50 when billed by mail, with the toll booth in between. Rates are reviewed annually and tolling is currently projected to continue into the 2030s — check WSDOT for the current figure. Whatever it is, it's inside your quote and you never see it as a line item.
Why the buffer is bigger here

There is no second bridge.

From Tacoma, if I-5 seizes up, your driver takes SR-99. From Lakewood, there are three separate on-ramps within five minutes. From Puyallup, there's SR-512 and there's SR-167. Every other route we run has a plan B.

From Gig Harbor, there isn't one. WSDOT states it plainly: there is no free alternative bridge crossing of Puget Sound in that area. The land route around the head of the inlet — up through Purdy, around toward Belfair and Bremerton — adds an hour or more and is not a serious option for someone with a flight. If something closes the Narrows, you are not going around it. You are waiting.

So we treat the crossing as the risk, because it is the risk. Bridge conditions and WSDOT incident reports are checked before every Gig Harbor pickup, and the lead time we set is longer than the drive time strictly requires. That's not padding — it's the only sensible response to a single point of failure between you and your gate.

It's also, quietly, the strongest argument for booking a car at all from this side of the water. A rideshare driver won't know the bridge is backed up until they're on it with you.

The drive

Gig Harbor to the gate, step by step.

Forty miles, three roads, one bridge. Here is how it actually runs.

Mile 0Pickup

Your door, wherever it is

Downtown by the waterfront, up in Canterwood, out at Artondale or Rosedale, across to Fox Island, or down the Key Peninsula. The driver texts on arrival and loads your bags. Your rate was calculated from that exact address, which is why a Key Center pickup isn't priced like a Point Fosdick one.

Mile 1–5SR-16 east

Onto SR-16

The peninsula's spine. Everything funnels here — which is fine at 4 AM and considerably less fine at 7:30 on a weekday, when the whole of Gig Harbor is trying to get to work in Tacoma.

Mile 6The crossing

The Tacoma Narrows Bridge

Eastbound, on the 2007 span, in the tolled direction. The toll is fixed and it's already in your quote. This is also the mile that decides your morning: it's the only crossing, and if it's blocked there is no way around it. Which is why we checked it before we left.

Mile 7–15Through Tacoma

SR-16 to I-5 North

Past the Narrows, down through west Tacoma, and onto northbound I-5 at the interchange. From here it's the same corridor every one of our routes uses.

Mile 15–40I-5 North

Fife, Federal Way, Des Moines

The familiar stretch. When it stalls, drivers cut to SR-99 or SR-509 — and here, at last, there are alternatives. The free part of the route is the part with options.

Mile 40Arrival

SeaTac departures, Exit 154B

Up to the Departures level, curbside at your airline's specific door. Bags out, done.

Our rule of thumb from Gig Harbor: leave 3 hours before a domestic departure, 4 hours before international. That's roughly thirty minutes more than we'd recommend from Tacoma — and the extra half hour is entirely the bridge's fault.

The real comparison

Gig Harbor is where the alternatives run out.

On most of our routes, transit is a genuine option and we say so. From this side of the water, it mostly isn't — and that changes the whole comparison.

On our Tacoma and Seattle pages we tell people to take the bus when the bus is better. From Gig Harbor, we mostly can't. There is no rail on the peninsula, and reaching SEA on public transit means crossing to Tacoma and transferring — hours, not minutes, and effectively nothing at the hours most flights leave. That's not a sales pitch, it's just the map. Parking figures are approximate; check the Port of Seattle for current garage rates.

Frequently asked

Gig Harbor questions, answered straight.

Mostly about the bridge, because mostly it's about the bridge. Still stuck? Call (253) 666-6560.

  • How much is a shuttle from Gig Harbor to SeaTac?+
From $115 for a sedan (up to 3 passengers). SUVs, vans, and Sprinters are quoted per trip. The rate covers the entire vehicle, not each seat, and the eastbound Narrows Bridge toll is included, along with gratuity. Your exact price is calculated by distance from your pickup address — a Point Fosdick pickup and a Key Peninsula pickup are genuinely different trips — then locked at booking. No surge, no off-hours surcharge.
  • Is the Tacoma Narrows Bridge toll included?+
Yes, and you never see it as a line item. This matters more on the airport run than people realise, because the bridge is tolled in one direction only — eastbound, from Gig Harbor toward Tacoma. That is the exact direction every trip to SeaTac travels. Your ride home, westbound, isn't tolled at all.
  • Which direction is the Narrows Bridge tolled, and how much is it?+
Eastbound only — tolls are collected only on trips headed toward Tacoma, on the 2007 span. The 1950 westbound span is not tolled. The rate is fixed, not dynamic: the same at 4 AM as at 4 PM, every day of the week. It runs from roughly $4.50 with a Good To Go! pass to around $6.50 billed by mail, with the toll booth in between. Rates are reviewed annually — check WSDOT for the current figure. Whichever it is, it's inside our quote.
  • What happens if the bridge is blocked?+
There is genuinely no good answer, which is the whole point. WSDOT confirms there is no free alternative bridge crossing of Puget Sound in that area. The land detour around the inlet adds an hour or more and isn't a serious option with a flight to catch. So we treat the crossing as the risk: bridge conditions and WSDOT incident reports are checked before every Gig Harbor pickup, and we set a longer lead time than the drive strictly needs. A rideshare driver won't know the bridge is backed up until they're on it — with you.
  • How long does it take, and when should I leave?+
45 to 65 minutes, about 40 miles via SR-16, the Narrows Bridge, and I-5 North. Our rule of thumb from Gig Harbor: leave 3 hours before a domestic departure, 4 hours before international — roughly thirty minutes more than we'd advise from Tacoma. The extra half hour is entirely the bridge's fault.
  • Do you pick up on the Key Peninsula and Fox Island?+
Yes. Gig Harbor proper — downtown, Canterwood, Harbor Hill, Rosedale, Artondale, Crescent Valley, Peacock Hill, Point Fosdick, Wollochet — plus Purdy, Fox Island, Olalla, and the Key Peninsula including Key Center, Home, Vaughn, and Longbranch. Rates are calculated from your exact address, so distance genuinely affects the number out here.
  • Can I take public transit from Gig Harbor to SeaTac?+
Not practically, no. There's no light rail or commuter rail on the peninsula. Reaching SEA on transit means crossing to Tacoma by bus and then transferring — hours rather than minutes, with effectively nothing running at the hours most flights depart. On our Tacoma and Seattle pages we happily tell people to take the bus when the bus is better. From Gig Harbor, we mostly can't.
  • Do you go to Tacoma Narrows Airport (TIW)?+
Yes, on request. Worth knowing: Tacoma Narrows Airport is actually in Gig Harbor, at 1202 26th Ave NW — it's the general-aviation field, not a commercial one. If your private or charter flight leaves from TIW rather than SEA, say so when you book, because it's a completely different trip and it doesn't cross the bridge at all.
  • Do you handle 4 AM and red-eye pickups?+
Every night. No off-hours surcharge — a 4 AM pickup costs what a 4 PM one costs. This matters more from the peninsula than most places: rideshare supply out here is thin at the best of times, and at 4 AM it's thinner still. And nobody should be driving the Narrows home at 1 AM after a red-eye.
  • Is this a shared ride?+
No. Private vehicles only, since 2015. Your vehicle carries your party and no one else, with no extra pickups. From Gig Harbor that matters doubly — a shared van doing three pickups across the peninsula before it even reaches the bridge is not a schedule anyone should accept before a flight.
  • Can you take us to the cruise piers instead?+
Yes — Pier 91 (Smith Cove) and Pier 66 (Bell Street), direct from the peninsula, with cruise luggage handled and embarkation timing built around your ship's boarding window. Quoted on request.
  • What's the cancellation policy?+
24+ hours before pickup: full refund. Within 24 hours: 50% fee. After the driver is dispatched: non-refundable. We try to be reasonable about genuine emergencies — call us and we'll work it out.
